Obstetrics Focus Faculty Director: Dr. Rose Swords

The Reproductive Health – Obstetrics Focus area of concentration is designed to prepare the family medicine resident to practice low-risk obstetrics in the community upon graduation. It requires more intensive training in maternity care and includes the following components:

1) One additional month of an obstetrics elective to be done in the 3rd year of residency
2) Participation in weekly fetal strip rounds with the inpatient OB team
3) A higher required number of total deliveries prior to graduation (75 total deliveries including ten continuity patients)
4) Two maternity care topics to be presented during 2nd and 3rd year at our family medicine noon conferences
5) Completion of required reading on maternity care topics
6) Development of OB ultrasound skills

Family Planning Focus Faculty: Dr. Elana Craemer

We are a RHEDI training site. The Reproductive Health Track – Family Planning area of concentration is designed to prepare the family medicine resident to incorporate full spectrum family planning, including abortion, with a reproductive justice framework into their practice upon graduation. It requires a written application during first year and includes the following components:

1) Longitudinal high volume procedural uterine aspiration training at Planned Parenthood during second and third year

2) Must complete research/PDSA/advocacy project with family planning focus

3) Two family planning topics to be presented during 2nd and 3rd year at our family medicine noon conferences

4) Completion of required reading on family planning topics, including early pregnancy loss

5) Development of uterine ultrasound skills
